چکیده

This paper presents a test case to help validate simulation codes for contact problems involving beams. A closed form solution is derived and the comparison made with finite element (FE) implementation that uses mortar method enforcing constraints. The consists of semi-infinite cantilever beam subjected constant distributed load experiencing frictionless straight rigid substrate. Both an Euler-Bernoulli Timoshenko model are considered influence differing kinematic hypotheses analyzed. In force equal along region except at boundary where point appears. On contrary, substrate exerts fully on which decays exponentially from first tends towards applied load. rate decay depends relative shear deformability. Moreover, whereas in transverse discontinuous, it becomes continuous when allowing deformation. An example benchmarking given particular FE code. error respect exact can be computed shown numerical converges analytic mesh refined.

System identification of a beam with frictional contact

The nonlinear system becomes an area with numerous investigations over the past decades. The conventional modal analysis could not be  applied on nonlinear continuous system which makes it impossible to construct the reduced order models and obtain system response based on limited number of measurement points. Nonlinear normal modes provide a useful tool for extending modal analysis to nonlinea...

Nonlinear Control of a Benchmark Beam

Magnetic bearing control schemes frequently use a bias current together with a superimposed control current to improve actuator gain and linearity. However, even in no load conditions, there is power loss due to the bias currents. There are ohmic losses in the coils, and in high-speed machines there are eddy-current and hys-teresis losses in the rotor because of the bias uxes. The force slew-ra...

A Unified Approach for Beam-to-Beam Contact

Existing beam contact formulations can be categorized in point-to-point contact models that consider a discrete contact force at the closest point of the beams, and line-to-line contact models that assume distributed contact forces. In this work, it will be shown that line contact formulations applied to slender beams provide accurate and robust mechanical models in the range of small contact a...

Dynamic Frictional Contact of a Viscoelastic Beam

Abstract. In this paper, we study the dynamic frictional contact of a viscoelastic beam with a deformable obstacle. The beam is assumed to be situated horizontally and to move, in both horizontal and tangential directions, by the effect of applied forces. The left end of the beam is clamped and the right one is free. Its horizontal displacement is constrained because of the presence of a deform...

An analytic solution for a non-local initial-boundary value problem including a partial differential equation with variable coefficients

‎This paper considers a non-local initial-boundary value problem containing a first order partial differential equation with variable coefficients‎. ‎At first‎, ‎the non-self-adjoint spectral problem is derived‎. ‎Then its adjoint problem is calculated‎. ‎After that‎, ‎for the adjoint problem the associated eigenvalues and the subsequent eigenfunctions are determined‎. ‎Finally the convergence ...
